Vikings Defeat No. 17 Cal State Dominguez Hills 68-46

WWU records 22-point victory over Toros to improve to 3-1 on the season

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's basketball team opened play in the GNAC-CCAA Challenge Friday with a 22-point 68-46 victory over No. 17 Cal State Dominguez Hills inside Royal Brougham Pavilion.

 

The Vikings ended the opening quarter on a 13-2 run and never looked back on the way to the dominating victory over the Toros, who were the NCAA Division II national runner-up last season. 

 

WWU won its third consecutive game to improve to 3-1 during the early part of the 2025-26 season.

 

Senior forward Aspen Garrison led all players with 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting while playing a team-high 30 minutes.

 

Senior forward Olivia Hodges added 16 points and seven rebounds and junior guard Libby Stump totaled 12 points, six assists and four steals.

 

All 11 players on the roster saw action in the game with nine scoring points. WWU shot 51.1-percent for the game (24-for-47) and were 4-for-9 from three-point range. The Vikings held a commanding 40-29 advantage in rebounding.

 

The Toros (0-1) were led by 13 points and five rebounds by Kylee Edgar.

AT THE HALF

The Vikings carried a 36-23 lead into halftime, shooting 60.0-percent in the first 20 minutes of action going 15-for-25 from the field (3-6 3 FG). The Toros jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, but WWU answered with a 13-2 run to end the quarter, punctuated by back-to-back three-pointers by Libby Stump. Aspen Garrison led the Vikings with 10 points in the first half on 5-for-10 shooting, Olivia Hodges added nine points and five rebounds and Stump had eight points and four assists. WWU held a 22-8 rebounding advantage in the first half.

 

UP NEXT FOR THE VIKINGS

The Vikings (3-1) are back in action Saturday evening facing Cal State LA in a 5:15 pm game to close out play in the GNAC-CCAA Challenge in Royal Brougham Pavilion. The game will feature a live webcast on the GNAC Network.
