Vikings Fall to Chaminade in Fast Paced Game

WWU drops West Region game to Chaminade 107-98 in Honolulu

HONOLULU – The Western Washington University men's basketball team dropped a fast-paced non-conference West Region match-up against Chaminade University 107-98 Wednesday evening inside McCabe Gymnasium.

WWU out-scored Chaminade 54-47 in the second half, but the Silverswords 60 first-half points were too much to overcome in the nine-point defeat to snap the Vikings three-game winning streak. Western is now 3-3 on the season heading into Friday's game at Hawai'i Pacific.

Sophomore forward Trevor White neared his career-high in points scored with a team-best 25 points on 11-for-18 shooting, and was close to a double-double with a game-high nine rebounds. Junior forward Louis Grante-Halliday added 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting and matched White with nine rebounds. Reigning GNAC Player of the Week Aidan Rice chipped in 14 points and five assists.

The Vikings trailed 60-44 at the half, with Chaminade shooting 53.7-percent in the opening 20 minutes going 22-for-41 from the field. White led the Vikings with 13 points in 15 minutes on 5-for-7 shooting.

Facing its third GNAC opponent of the young season, Chaminade improved to 2-1 while shooting 54.8-percent for the game (40-for-73). The Silverswords defeated Alaska Fairbanks 102-86 and lost to Alaska Anchorage 57-53. CUH featured five players scoring in double-digits, led by 22 points from Kris King and 18 each by Roland Banks II and Kent King.

WWU never led in the game and trailed by as many as 23 points midway through the second half. The Vikings finished the game out-scoring the Silverswords 25-14 over the final eight minutes of the contest.
