IRVINE, Calif. – There are monster double-doubles…and then there is what Western Washington senior forward Olivia Hodges produced Saturday in the 82-65 victory over Azusa Pacific to close out play in the GNAC/PacWest Challenge.
Hodges, a Southern California native from Pasadena and senior transfer from Cal State LA, put up one of the biggest single-game performances in program history with 37 points and 17 rebounds. The 6-1 forward went 14-for-20 from the field and 9-for-12 from the free throw line.
The 37-point performance is tied for third-best in the 55-year history of the program, and the 17 rebounds tied for the 5th-most during the NCAA era (since 1998).
"Olivia was unstoppable this weekend. She works just so hard at both ends of the court," said WWU head coach Carmen Dolfo. "I am really proud of our team this weekend. We really took what the defense gave us and this team plays so well together."
In two games in the GNAC/PacWest Challenge, including Friday's 86-57 win over tournament host CUI, Hodges recorded a 13-point, 16-rebound double-double. In the two games she scored 50 points and grabbed 33 rebounds.
Junior guard Demi Dykstra backed up her 23-point performance on Friday with 16 points and four steals against APU. Junior guard Rakiyah Jackson added nine points, all coming from the free throw line.
Azusa Pacific (2-3) was led by 23 points from Audrey Sayoc and Lauren Jones had 12 points.
WWU shot 54.2-percent for the game (26-for-48) and combined to shoot 60.1-percent in the tournament (60-for-99).
The Vikings (5-2) make their official home opener next weekend hosting the Lynda Goodrich Classic November 28-29 in Carver Gym.
