Vikings Extend Winning Streak With Victory at SPU

WWU completes 2-0 start to GNAC play with 67-43 victory over Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's basketball team put together a dominating second-half performance in Friday's 67-43 road victory over Seattle Pacific University, extending the Vikings winning streak to six consecutive games.

 

WWU improved to 9-2 overall and closed out a perfect 2-0 opening weekend of GNAC play by holding the Falcons to 17 second-half points. The Vikings pulled away from a 33-30 lead early in the third quarter, out-scoring SPU 34-13 over the final 16 Minutes of the contest.

 

Senior forward Olivia Hodges extended her NCAA II lead in double-doubles with her ninth in 11 games, leading all players with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Hodges was 7-for-18 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free throw line in her seventh consecutive game with double-digits in points and rebounds. Through the first 11 games of the 2025-26 season, the Cal State LA transfer is averaging 18.9 points and 12.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.1-percent from the field (69-for-130).

 

Junior guard Demi Dykstra finished with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting, scoring 12 points in the second half. Dykstra was 5-for-7 from beyond the 3-point arc, with four in the final quarter. Senior forward Aspen Garrison added nine points and three blocked shots and junior guard Joy Haltom contributed six points and six rebounds.

 

SPU (2-6, 0-2 GNAC) was led by 18 points from Layne Kearns on 7-for-15 shooting. The Falcons recorded nine blocked shots, tied for the most by a GNAC team this season.

GAME NOTES

Olivia Hodges recorded her ninth double-double in 11 games, extending her NCAA II lead in the category … Elizabeth Swift capped the scoring in the game with a long three-pointer, the first collegiate points for the redshirt freshman guard … WWU's defense limited SPU to 17 second-half points with 8 in the 3rd quarter and 9 in the 4th quarter … Demi Dykstra scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half … the six-game winning streak dates back to an 86-57 road win at CUI on November 21.

 

THE MOMENT THAT MATTERED

Western went on a 10-2 scoring run in the third quarter, pulling away from a three-point game at 33-30 to take a 43-32 lead. That scoring spurt opened the game up with the Vikings out-scoring the Falcons 34-13 over the final 16 minutes of the game.

 

UP NEXT FOR THE VIKINGS

The Vikings (9-2, 2-0 GNAC) are off next week for final exams, returning to action December 19-20 with a pair of games in the Great Western Shootout in Las Vegas (hosted by WWU).
