Vikings Use Longball In 11-4 Victory at Dominican

No. 12 WWU improves to 20-8 on the season with seventh win in last eight games

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The No. 12 Western Washington University softball team used the longball to defeat Dominican 11-4 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Penguin Field.

 

The Vikings recorded their seventh win in the last eight games to reach the 20-win mark at 20-8 overall with the seven-run victory over Dominican to continue the program's spring break road trip to Northern California.

 

WWU tallied 11 hits and hit a single-game high three home runs. Junior shortstop Hailey Rath went 3-for-3 with four runs scored, six RBI and recorded her third career multi-home run game leaving Penguin Field twice. Senior catcher Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez also homered for her third dinger of the season and 21st of her WWU career.

 

The Vikings scored in each of their first four at-bats to build an 8-0 lead and added three more runs in the 6th inning to reach double-digits in runs scored for the seventh time this season (4th in last 8 games).

 

Leadoff hitter Maleah Andrews extended her hitting streak to 12 consecutive games and on-base streak to 25 straight going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and hit her 12th double of the season.

 

Sophomore Kaiana Kong earned the win to improve to 4-0 on the season and 20-1 in her career while making her first career start in her 67th pitching appearance. Kong allowed six hits and four runs (3 ER) in 5.0 innings. Sophomore Alli Kimball closed out the victory with 2.0 scoreless innings facing the minimum while inducing a pair of double plays.

 

Game Notes: Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez hit her third home run of the season and No. 21 of her WWU career to move into a tie for 3rd-most in program history…Hailey Rath recorded her third career multi-homer game tying the single-game record for home runs (25th time)…Rath moved into 4th in WWU history with 112 career RBI while starting all 141 possible games of her collegiate career…Kaiana Kong improved to 20-1 in her collegiate career while making her first career start in the circle (67th appearance)…Maleah Andrews has recorded at least one hit in 26 of 28 games this season while recording her team-leading 12th multi-hit game (second 4-hit game)…Andrews is batting .522 (47-for-90) with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 22 RBI and 19 walks (.606 on-base pct.)…WWU improved to 6-0 all-time vs. Dominican.
