Vikings and Wildcats Play to Scoreless Draw in GNAC Play

WWU holds decisive 18-6 advantage in shots and 9-2 in shots on goal

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's soccer team held a decisive 18-6 advantage in shots, but the Vikings couldn't find the back of the net settling for a scoreless draw Saturday against Central Washington University Saturday at CWU Soccer Field.

WWU concluded the opening weekend of GNAC play with a 1-0-1 record after defeating Northwest Nazarene University 5-0 on Thursday. Over the last 17 games in conference play the Vikings are undefeated at 13-0-4.

In addition to the big advantage in total shots (18-6), WWU also held a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. CWU goalkeeper Danika Galbraith saved all nine shots on goal to keep the Vikings off the scoreboard to move the overall record to 3-1-3 on the season and 1-0-1 in GNAC play.

"We threw everything but the kitchen sink at them today. In the end we couldn't get the ball across the line for the winning goal," said WWU head coach Travis Connell. "Credit their goalkeeper for making some good saves today."

Western senior midfielder Morgan Manalili led the Vikings with five shots and four shots on goal, with senior forward Claire Potter tallying four shots and junior midfielder Mie Cairns recording two shots. Freshman goalkeeper Ellie McGowan recorded her first career clean sheet making a pair of saves logging the full 90 minutes.

CWU moved to 2-1-2 on the season and went 0-1-1 in the first week of GNAC play.
