Vikings Earn Big Win in Dolfo's 1000th Career Game

WWU defeats Alaska Fairbanks 72-47 to improve to 13-5 overall, 5-2 in GNAC play

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University women's basketball coach Carmen Dolfo reached another historic milestone Thursday, leading the Vikings to a convincing 72-47 victory over Alaska Fairbanks in her 1,000th career game at the helm of the Vikings.

In her 35th season as a head coach – all at WWU – Dolfo recorded her 722nd win as the Vikings improved to13-5 overall and 5-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play with the 25-point victory. She becomes the 65th all-time NCAA women's basketball coach to reach the 1,000-game milestone and is one of just 11 to do so at the NCAA Division II level with a minimum of 10 years coached.

The Vikings put together a well-rounded performance in the victory, featuring three post players scoring in double-digits, and a 26-assist effort by the team. WWU shot 53.3-percent from the field (32-for-60) and scored 56 of 72 points in the paint.

Senior forward Olivia Hodges secured her 12th double-double of the season with 22 points (9-for-13 FG) and 12 rebounds and senior forward Aspen Garrison added 17 points, eight rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocked shots. Sophomore forward Vivienne Berrett scored a collegiate career-high 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting in 18 minutes.

The Vikings bounced back from their first back-to-back losses of the season last week on the road, remaining perfect at 5-0 in Carver Gym this season. WWU led wire-to-wire after scoring a basket immediately after the opening tip-off.

UAF (0-14, 0-6 GNAC) was led by a game-high 25 points by Tamai Mancuso on 9-for-14 shooting.
