Vikings Power Past Simon Fraser for 26-Point Victory

WWU puts on defensive display in 66-40 home victory over Simon Fraser

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's basketball team put on a defensive clinic in Saturday's 66-40 victory over Simon Fraser University on WECU Court in Carver Gym.

The Vikings limited the Red Leafs to 18 second-half points and the team defensive effort produced two quarters with five-or-fewer points in the 26-point victory.

WWU finished the first half of the 18-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule with a 7-2 record, extending its winning streak to three consecutive games to move to 15-5 overall in 2025-26. The Vikings remain unbeaten in Carver Gym with a perfect 7-0 record.

SFU held an 18-16 lead through the first quarter of play, but the Vikings shrugged off the slow start out-scoring the Red Leafs 16-4 in the second period to take a 32-22 lead at the half. SFU used an 11-0 run in the third quarter to cut its deficit to single-digits, but the Vikings answered with a 20-0 scoring run in the final quarter to pull away for the 26-point victory.

Junior guard Demi Dykstra led three Vikings scoring in double digits with 19 points (8-for-17 FG) and filled up the stat sheet with five rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals. Junior guard Libby Stump added 17 points and nine assists and senior forward Olivia Hodges neared another double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward Aspen Garrison tallied a career-high 10 rebounds to go with six points.

WWU shot 44.1-percent for the game (26-for-59) and was 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

The Vikings defense held the Red Leafs to 22.0-percent shooting in the game (13-for-59) and 3-for-17 from three-point range. Sophie Bergeron led SFU with 12 points and five rebounds. The Red Leafs dropped to 8-12 overall and 3-6 in conference games.
