Vikings Drop Road Game at Saint Martin's

Vikings continue road trip Saturday at Western Oregon

LACEY, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's basketball team dropped its road game at Saint Martin's Thursday to open the second half of GNAC play 56-48 inside Marcus Pavilion.

The Vikings endured a slow start, being held to just six points in the opening quarter, and couldn't close the gap down the stretch in the eight-point loss. WWU drops to 15-6 overall and 7-3 in conference games. In 14 games away from Bellingham the Vikings are 8-6, while going 7-0 in Carver Gym.

The Vikings were limited to six points in the opening quarter, shooting 2-for-9 from the field and committing eight turnovers. WWU pulled to within one point at 17-16 midway through the second quarter, but the Saints finished the half on a 10-4 run to grab the 25-18 halftime lead.

SMU hit a pair of three pointers early in the second half to extend its lead to double-digits, but the Vikings battled until the end, pulling to within five points in the final minute before dropping the 56-48 contest.

Junior guard Libby Stump scored a game-high 22 points on 9-for-21 shooting (4-for-11 from 3-point range) and added six rebounds. Senior forward Olivia Hodges tallied her 14th double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Vikings shot 30.0-percent for the game (18-for-60) for the second-lowest shooting performance of the season.

The Saints snapped an 11-game losing streak against the Vikings to improve to 11-8 overall and 7-3 in conference play to pull into a tie for second place in the standings with WWU and Northwest Nazarene. SMU featured three players scoring in double-digits led by 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting by Kiana Rios, 15 points from Laiken Hill (4-for-8 3FG) and 10 points and six assists from Jada Travis.
