Holdridge Delivers Game Winner in 1-0 Win at MSUB

Vikings win 10th consecutive game to clinch at least share of GNAC title

BILLINGS, Mont. – The No. 8 nationally ranked Western Washington University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to 10 consecutive games with a 1-0 road shutout victory against Montana State Billings on Saturday at Yellowjacket Soccer Field.

The Vikings improved to 13-1-3 overall and secured at least a share of the regular-season GNAC title moving to 11-0-1 in conference play. WWU has not been beat in GNAC play over the last 41 games stretching back to the end of the 2023 season.

Saturday's 1-0 blanking of the Yellowjackets was another dominating defensive masterpiece, with the Vikings allowing just one shot in the 90-minute match to record the 13th shutout of the season. WWU has allowed only four goals in 17 games this season to rank among the nation's best defenses in NCAA Division II. Over the last two games the Vikings have out-shot their opponents 42-2, including a 19-1 edge vs. MSUB.

Similar to Thursday's 2-0 win at rival Seattle Pacific where the Vikings were patient until finding the breakthrough in the 69th minute (WWU scored its first goal in the 68th minute vs. the Falcons).

The Vikings goal at the 68:16 mark started deep on their end of the with Olivia Connell using a midfield combination of Reese Walker and Mie Cairns to push the ball forward. Walker took space dribbling towards the 18-yard box and threaded a pass to Audrey Holdridge, who cut back towards the middle of the field and one-timed a left-footed shot into the upper right quadrant of the goal for her fourth goal of the season.

"Billings had a great plan and made things difficult for us to score. I am proud of the resolve and belief in our group to not panic and understand we have a plan on how to break it down," said WWU head coach Travis Connell. "We didn't panic and handled that type of pressure well…which shows a lot of growth in our group."

Holdridge's goal was her third game-winning strike of the season, also tallying two goals in the season-opening win over Hawai'i Hilo and another in the 1-0 win over Saint Martin's on October 15.

"Audrey has had some important goals for us this year. She does so much for us by stretching the defense and playing defense," added Connell. "We've been able to get her one-on-one in situations, and she has produced not only great goals, but great game-winning goals."

Montana State Billings dropped to 2-9-5 overall and 2-8-2 in GNAC play.
