LACEY, Wash. - Outside hitter Shannon Rowland (Sr., Bellingham/Meridian) had a match-high 15 kills in 26 attempts with just three errors for a .462 attack percentage as nationally-ranked Western Washington University swept Saint Martin's College, 30-17, 30-16, 30-22, on Friday in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball contest at SMC Pavilion.
The Vikings, ranked No.10 in the most recent AVCA NCAA Division II Top 25, improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 league with the victory, their 25th straight conference win. They also got 11 kills (.429 attack pct.) and nine digs from Brianna Murray (So., Everett/Cascade) and 10 kills (.381 attack pct.) and a match high six blocks from Kristy Carstensen (So., Puyallup).
Saint Martin's, which dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-3 league, was led by Charlotte Scofield with 21 digs. The Saints have lost their last 11 matches, dating back to the end of last season.
"We played really solid," said Western coach Diane Flick. "We were solid both at the net and on defense in keeping their team off balance."
Nicola Parker (Jr., Auburn), the Vikings' libero, led the team with 10 digs. She ranks sixth nationally in that category.
Western is at Central Washington University on Saturday (7 p.m.) for a GNAC contest.
