BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Guard Jackie Hollands had 20 points and forward Libby Magnuson added 15, helping nationally ranked Seattle Pacific University to an 86-44 victory over injury-decimated Western Washington University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game Thursday on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium.
It was a school-record seventh straight loss for the Vikings, who fell to 3-13 overall and 0-4 in GNAC play with 11 losses in their last 12 games. Center Claire Pallansch (Jr., Redmond) had a game-high 18 points for Western.
The Vikings, already missing two projected starters for the rest of the season with injuries, were also without three other regulars from injuries suffered within the last 10 days.
Seattle Pacific, ranked No.4 in the latest USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll, remained unbeaten at 14-0 overall and 5-0 in GNAC play. The Falcons have won 100 of their 111 GNAC contests.
Western started well, jumping to a 9-2 lead 4:11 into the game. The Vikings held their final lead at 21-19 on a layup by forward Gabby Wade (So., Lacey/River Ridge) with 8:49 left in the first half, but Seattle Pacific then went on a 12-2 run capped by a fast-break 3-pointer by Magnusson to take a 31-23 advantage with 5:31 to go in the period.
The Falcons led 39-30 at the half, then opened the second half by outscoring the Vikings 11-2 in the first four minutes, effectively putting the game out of reach at 50-32. Western scored just 14 points in the second half, going 6-of-24 (25 percent) from the field.
Kelsey Burns and Daesha Henderson each scored 14 points off the bench for Seattle Pacific, which shot 58.2 percent (32-of-55) from the field for the game and had a 38-28 advantage in rebounds.
Western has already had 44 player-games missed due to injury, with seven players missing at least one contest. Guard Amanda Dunbar (R-Fr., Marysville/Marysville-Pilchuck) had 11 points for Western, and Wade had a team-high 10 rebounds.
The loss was the most lopsided at Carver Gym in school history, and the third-largest margin of defeat in school history, being topped only by a 99-49 loss at Portland in 1982-83, and a 97-51 loss to St. Joseph's PA at the 1977 AIAW National Tournament.
