Box Score

BURNABY, B.C. - Two goals less than seven minutes apart midway through the second half doomed Western Washington University as it fell 2-0 to Simon Fraser University in a non-conference men's soccer game Monday at the SFU Soccer Field.

The Vikings, who were playing the fifth of eight straight road games, dropped to 5-11-0. It was their third straight loss.

Simon Fraser, ranked No.5 nationally in the NAIA, improved to 14-3-0.

"It was a very competitive game and it was one of our better games this year," said Western coach Travis Connell. "Both teams played well. They scored a quality goal and we missed a couple of chances that could have gone either way. It was good to see our guys come out with some fight and defend well in the first half."

The Clan's Roman Doutkevitch broke a scoreless tie in the 63rd minute with an unassisted goal. Just over six minutes later, Simon Fraser scored again on an own goal.

Western had a 12-9 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

The Vikings return to Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Thursday (7 p.m.) as they travel to NCAA Division II No.23-rated Seattle Pacific.
