The Vikings ranked No.5 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 9-1-0 overall with their seventh consecutive victory. WWU had a 43-4 advantage in shot attempts, including a 22-0 margin in the first half.
Trinity Lutheran fell to 3-7-1.
The seven goals matched the most scored by WWU since late in the 1998 season.
Aylward scored twice in the first 15 minutes. She converted the rebound of a Catherine Miles (Sr., Anacortes) shot just 2:48 into the contest for the opening goal. Miles scored two minutes later, knocking in the rebound of a shot by Delanee Nilles (Sr., Poulsbo/North Kitsap), and Aylward made the margin 3-0 with a shot from 12 yards off an assist by Stephanie Hamilton.
Sandy Hanses concluded the first-half scoring in the 40th minute with DeWeirdt assisting, giving Western a 4-0 lead at halftime.
DeWeirdt scored her first in the 63rd minute, finishing from the edge of the penalty area after a through ball by Malia Maack (So., Spokane/Mead). The Eagles got their only goal six minutes later, as Breann Morren stole the ball 30 yards from goal and went on to score, but the Vikings answered less than 30 seconds after the restart, with DeWeirdt notching her second. Gabriela Pelogi wrapped up the scoring on a 75th minute breakaway.
