ARCATA, Calif. -- Junior guard Taylor Peacocke and freshman forward Nikki Corbett each scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures in a 97-51 victory over Fresno Pacific Friday afternoon at the West Region Challenge hosted by Humboldt State University.
The Vikings (1-0) opened the season with a dominating performance on both ends of the court. The team shot 65.7% from the field (44-for-67) and held a 42-21 advantage on the boards. The 97 points scored are the most by a Vikings squad since a 100-51 win over Montana State Billings Jan. 3, 2015.
"Today was a really good team effort and a nice way to open the season," said 25th year head coach Carmen Dolfo. "They really shared the ball well."
Peacocke (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor/Sacramento State) was 8-for-12 from the field and also recorded 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Corbett (Camas, WA) tied for the team high in points in her collegiate debut despite playing only 15 minutes. The 6-2 forward was 7-for-8 from the field off the bench and added 5 rebounds.
Also reaching double-digits in scoring were junior guard Aleisha Hathaway (Spokane, WA/Shadle Park) with 15 points, 5 assists and 4 steals, junior forward Tia Briggs (Tacoma, WA/Wilson) with 15 points and 6 rebounds and redshirt freshman guard Alyssa Evans (Mount Vernon, WA) with 11 points.
The Vikings return to action tomorrow facing tournament host Humboldt State at 3 pm.
