MONMOUTH, Ore. - Guard Taylor Peacocke (So., Kenmore/Inglemoor) had a game-high 18 points to lead a balanced attack as Western Washington University rolled to an 81-48 victory over Western Oregon University on Saturday, Feb. 14, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball contest at the New P.E. Building on the WOU campus.
Five players reached double figures for the Vikings, who improved to 17-7 overall and 11-4 in the GNAC with their 11th victory in the last 13 games.
Western Oregon fell to 6-16 overall and 3-11 in the GNAC with their fifth loss in the last six games. Dana Goularte had 12 points for the Wolves.
The Vikings established control quickly, jumping to an 18-6 lead just over five minutes into the game and holding a 39-24 advantage at halftime. WWU shot 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from the field in the first half.
WWU then opened the second half with a 23-4 run over the first 7:30 to take a 61-28 advantage and never led by less than 30 points after that.
Sydney Donaldson (Sr., Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway) had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Vikings, Kayla Bernsen (Jr., Moses Lake) and Katie Colard (Sr., Elma/McCleary) each had 12 points, and Jenni White (Sr., Spokane/East Valley) added 10 points, six assists and three steals.
Peacocke made both of her two free throws Saturday, extending her consecutive makes to 24. She entered the game ranked second nationally in NCAA Division II in free-throw percentage at 92.8 percent (77-of 83). The Vikings were perfect as a team at the line, going 10-of-10.
It was WWU's 25th consecutive victory over the Wolves.
WWU plays host to University of Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday, Feb. 19 (7 p.m.) in a GNAC counter at Carver Gym on the WWU campus.
