BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Senior guard Taylor Peacocke scored a game-high 22 points to lead five Vikings in double figures scoring as the Western Washington University women's basketball team opened up its preseason schedule with a lopsided 84-56 victory over Trinity Western Saturday evening in exhibition play at the Wade King Recreation Center on the WWU campus.
Peacocke (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) was 9-for-16 from the floor including 3-for-3 from three-point range. The senior added 5 assists and 6 rebounds in the victory.
Also scoring in double-digits were senior forward Tia Briggs (Tacoma, WA/Wilson) and junior center Hannah Stipanovich (St. Louis, MO/Metro State) with 12 points, and freshman guard Lexie Bland (Ellensburg, WA) and senior forward Kiana Gandy (Des Moines, WA/Mount Rainier) both scored 11 points.
Senior forward Rachel Albert (Bellingham, WA/Sehome) led the Vikings with 11 rebounds and senior guard Jessica Valley (Lafayette, IN/McCutcheon/Nova Southeastern) added 7 points and 5 assists.
Trinity Western was led by 20 points from Jessie Brown on 7-for-15 shooting and 12 rebounds from Ashleigh Barnes.
WWU overall shot 48.6% from the field (34-for-70), and was 9-for-11 from three-point range (81.8%).
The Vikings continue their preseason schedule with the second of three exhibition games next Sunday (October 30) with a 3 pm game vs. Quest at Whatcom Community College. The annual Viking Jam will be held Wednesday (October 26) at the Wade King Rec Center on the WWU campus.
