BELLINGHAM, Wash. â€" Senior point guard Taylor Peacocke scored a game-high 21 points to lead five players in double-figure scoring to lead the Western Washington University to a 105-50 victory over Quest University Sunday afternoon in a women's basketball exhibition game at Whatcom Pavilion.
Peacocke (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor/Sacramento State) hit on 8 of 12 shots from the field, including 5-for-7 from three-point range to account for her game-high 21 points. The senior, who enters the season tied for 12th in WWU history with 1,195 career points, added 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a pair of steals in the lopsided victory.
Also scoring in double-digits were senior forward Kiana Gandy (15 points, 4 rebounds), senior guard Jessica Valley (12 points, 5 assists), sophomore guard Amanda Lance (11 points, 3-for-3 3-pointers) and senior forward Tia Briggs (10 points, 5 rebounds).
Overall the Vikings shot a scorching 60.6% from the field (43-for-71), with an 11-for-21 efficiency (52.4%) from three-point range. Through two exhibition games, Western is shooting 54.6% from the field (77-for-141) while connecting on 20-for-32 (62.5%) from three-point range. Peacocke is averaging 21.5 points in the two preseason games and is 8-for-10 from three-point range.
Jordin Wilkinson led Quest with 18 points on 5-for-12 shooting (3-for-7 3-pointers).
The Vikings conclude their preseason schedule on Saturday with the final exhibition game against the University of Puget Sound at 1 pm at Whatcom Community College. The 2016-17 season officially begins November 11-12 with the West Region Challenge hosted by Seattle Pacific University. WWU will face Humboldt State (11/11, 1 pm) and Fresno Pacific (11/12, 1 pm) in the tournament.
WWU was selected to finish first in the 2016-17 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll claiming 112 points and 6 of the 11 first-place votes.
