Vikings Defeat Eastern New Mexico 67-55

LAS VEGAS - Western Washington University senior guard Taylor Peacocke scored a game-high 25 points and senior forward Tia Briggs recorded her second straight double-double to lead the Vikings to a 67-55 victory over Eastern New Mexico Monday afternoon in the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic at the Doolittle Community Center.

The Vikings closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule improving to 7-3 on the season, snapping a mini two-game losing streak. Eastern New Mexico had their six-game winning streak come to an end falling to 7-3 on the season.

WWU pulled away from a 30-24 halftime lead out-scoring the Greyhounds 37-31 in the second half en route to the 12-point victory. The Vikings maintained a lead of at last 6 points throughout the second half, and led by at least 10 points throughout the final quarter.

Peacocke (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) scored a game-high 25 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor and was 11-for-11 from the free throw line. After having her streak of 37 consecutive games scoring in double-digits snapped in Saturday's tournament opener (8 points), Peacocke notched her eighth 20-point game of the season.

Briggs (Tacoma, WA) scored 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field to match her season high in points set Saturday vs. nationally-ranked Angelo State. She finished the tournament averaging 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.

ENMU was led by a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double by Daeshi McCants.

WWU's defense limited the Greyhounds to a 27.9% field goal percentage (17-for-61), including a 4-for-23 performance from 3-point range.

The Vikings will take some time off for the holidays and return to Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on December 29 (7 pm, Thursday) vs. Concordia and December 31 (4:30 pm, Saturday) vs. Western Oregon. Both league games will be played at Whatcom Pavilion in Bellingham.

Game Notes: Taylor Peacocke now has 1,419 career points to move into 7th place on the WWU all-time scoring list passing Lori DeKubber (1981-85, 1,408 points)...next up on the list is Jenn McGillivray (2000-04) with 1,432 career points...WWU was 23-for-29 from the free throw line and is now shooting 80.6% from the charity stripe this season (200-for-248)...Hannah Stipanovich was 4-for-4 from the free throw line and is now 47-for-49 for the season (95.9%)...WWU never trailed in the game, holding a lead for 38:55 (game was tied for 1:05).
