Vikings Race Past Alaska 99-54

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Led by a career-high 23 points from junior forward Kiana Gandy, 21 points from junior point guard Taylor Peacocke and another double-double from senior center Kayla Bernsen, the Western Washington Vikings routed Alaska 99-54 in the regular-season finale in GNAC action at Alaska Airlines Court.

The Vikings scored a season-high 99 points while shooting 58.0% from the field (40-for-69) and made 9-of-19 three-point attempts.

WWU snapped a mini two-game losing streak to improve to 20-8 overall and finished the regular season 16-4 in GNAC play (2nd place). WWU secured the No. 2 seed in next week's GNAC Tournament in Lacey and will play Friday at 5:15 pm (winner of No. 6 vs. No. 3 seed game featuring Northwest Nazarene and Montana State Billings). UAF finishes the season 12-18 overall and 7-13 in GNAC play.

The 20 wins mark the 33rd 20-win season in program 45-year history and 19th during the head coaching tenure of Carmen Dolfo (25th season).

Gandy (Des Moines, WA/Mount Rainier) bested her previous career high of 22 points (11/27/15 at Hawai'i Pacific) by scoring a game-high 23 points. She was 9-for-15 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Bernsen (Moses Lake, WA) recorded her team-leading 9th double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds. With her follow-up layup at the 7:00 mark of the first quarter, Bernsen joined the 1,000-point club becoming the 25th player in program history to reach that milestone.

Peacocke (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor/Sacramento State) continued her dominating season with her sixth 20+ point game of the season. She was 8-for-16 from the field, and tied her career-high with 4 three-pointers (4-for-7).

Junior forward Rachel Albert (Bellingham, WA/Sehome) added 12 points (4-for-5 shooting) and freshman guard Amanda Lance (Buckley, WA/White River) poured in a career-high 11 points, including a trio of three-pointers.

The Nanooks were led by 17 points from Jordan Wilson (8-for-11 FG).
