ABOUT THE VIKINGS…the No. 17 Vikings (6-2-0, 1-1-0 GNAC) hit the road for a pair of GNAC contests this week, traveling the I-5 corridor for games at Saint Martin's in Lacey (Thursday, 3:30 pm) and at Western Oregon in Monmouth, Oregon (Saturday, 11:30 am)…WWU has won 5 of its last 6
 
LAST WEEK…the Vikings went 2-0-0 in home matches last week, defeating then No. 7 Colorado School of Mines (now #5) 2-1 and shutting out Simon Fraser 1-0 in GNAC play…freshman Dayana Diaz was named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week for scoring a pair of game-winning goals and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Dierickx earned GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors making 9 saves during the two games, including 6 vs. Colorado Mines.

ROAD WARRIORS…the Vikings are 2-2-0 on the road this season and went 12-1-0 in 2017, with their only defeat coming in the West Regional final at UC San Diego…the loss at UCSD snapped a 23-game winning streak in games played away from Bellingham…dating back to the 2012 season (last six seasons), WWU is 62-10-6 (.833) in games played on the road (away/neutral).

HARRINGTON ADVANTAGE…WWU is 43-2-1 (.946) at Harrington Field since debuting the on-campus facility in 2014, including going 12-0-0 in 2015, 13-0-0 in 2016, 5-1-0 in 2017 and 4-0-0 so far this season.
 
DOMINATING THE GNAC…the Vikings have won five of the last six GNAC regular-season titles and each of the last three GNAC Championships titles…are 61-2-6 (.928) vs. GNAC opponents dating back to midway through the 2013 season…had a 64-game unbeaten streak vs. GNAC opponents snapped last season in a home game vs. Concordia (10/28/17)…went 58-0-6 from October 2013-October 2017, with the unbeaten streak vs. conference teams ranking 2nd-longest in NCAA Division II history (record is 72).
 
PELOGI'S POINTSGabriela Pelogi has scored 39 goals (3 this season) and 96 points in 76 career games…6th in WWU history in goals and 5th in points…also within striking distance of the GNAC records in both categories currently ranking tied for 9th in goals (record is 49) and 10th points (record is 122), with both records held by Seattle Pacific's Sarah Martinez (2004-07).

THE NATIONAL POLL…the Vikings dropped (somehow) dropped from No. 9 to No. 15 and now to No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II poll over the last two weeks, despite having a pair of wins over top-10 teams and the only two defeats vs. current No. 1 UC San Diego and No. 10 Concordia…has been a mainstay in the national polls since the 2012 season, earning final rankings of #13 (2012), #3 (2013), #17 (2014), #3 (2015), #1 (2016) and #8 (2017).
 
HISTORIC STREAK…the Vikings established a program and state of Washington collegiate record with their 39th consecutive victory on Oct. 26, 2017 at Northwest Nazarene…the 39-game winning streak broke the previous record of 38 consecutive wins set by the 1982-84 Vikings (10 games in 1982, 14 in 1983 and 14 games in 1984)…the streak is 4th-longest in NCAA II history and the 40-game unbeaten streak is tied for 4th-longest.

HALLQUIST NAMED GNAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK…senior defender Taylor Hallquist was named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 3-9 after recording a goal and 2 assists…Hallquist played 153 of 180 minutes in WWU's 2-0-0 week to earn her second GNAC weekly award (also 9/25-10/1/17).
 
TOUGH SCHEDULE…the Vikings first eight games of the season featured four ranked opponents, going 2-2…WWU has a pair of 1-0 defeats against No. 5 UC San Diego (now #1) and No. 15 Concordia (now #10), and beat No. 7 MSU Denver 2-1 (now #13) and No. 7 Colorado School of Mines (now #5)…WWU is listed as having the 3rd-toughest schedule in NCAA II with a past opposition winning percentage of .770 (36-9-5).

DOMINATING DEFENSE…a calling card of the WWU program has been defense, with the Vikings ranking 5th in the nation last season with a .397 goals-against average, tied for 3rd-fewest goals allowed (8) and tied for 5th with 14 shutouts…allowed multiple goals in a game only 9 times over the last 6 seasons (since 2012), combining for a .429 GAA average during this 144-game span, with 92 shutouts…WWU has featured the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year five of the last six years.
 
CHARTING SUCCESS…dating back to the start of the 2013 season (the last six seasons), WWU women's soccer has compiled an impressive 105-9-7 record for a .897 winning percentage...during this 121-game span WWU has won the GNAC regular-season four times, combining to go 59-3-4 (.924) in league play, and won three postseason GNAC Championships…amongst all Division II schools, the winning percentage since the start of the 2013 season is 3rd-best in Division II, narrowly trailing Grand Valley State (119-9-6/.910) and Central Missouri (110-10-5/.900).
 
GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS…the Vikings made it a three-peat winning the 2017 GNAC Championships for the third consecutive season, earning the GNAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships…advanced to the championships final with a 2-0 win over Seattle Pacific and claimed the title on a golden goal in the second overtime, 1-0, against No. 1-seed and host Concordia…advanced to the league championships final in each of the six years of the event, building an undefeated 10-0-2 record in championships play, with titles in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017…the 2018 tournament will again be held in Portland, Oregon, Nov. 1-3 at Tuominen Field.
 
DISTRIBUTION…8 different players have combined to score WWU's 13 goals in the first 8 games this season, with four players scoring 2+ goals…Gabriela Pelogi leads the team and is tied for 8th in the GNAC with 3 goals…WWU had 13 players score a goal last season (8 with multiple goals), which followed the 2016 national championship season where 19 players scored at least one goal.
 
SCORING MACHINES…the Vikings scored 55 goals last season, 8th-most in single-season program history and ranked 9th in NCAA II averaging 2.75 goals per game…goals per game average in 2017 was the best over the last 25 seasons…after averaging 1.52 goals per game in 2014, WWU has upped its scoring by averaging 2.49 goals per game over the last four seasons (192 goals in 77 games since start of 2015 season)…scored at least one goal in 48 of last 52 games.
 
HOMEGROWN…the 2018 roster is composed of primarily players from the state of Washington, with 25 of 28 hailing from the Evergreen State…only players not from Washington on the roster are senior goalkeeper Alyssa Treptow (Flagstaff, AZ), senior goalkeeper Hillary O'Conner (Los Angeles, CA) and junior defender Annaliese Laurila (Portland, OR).
 
COACH CONNELL…head coach Travis Connell is in his 16th season at the helm of the women's program, and 23rd overall at WWU…has a 226-68-26 (.747) record leading the Vikings, with a current string of 14 consecutive winning seasons and 6 straight trips to the NCAA Championships…heading into 2018 was listed as the 6th-winningest active coach at the DII level (by percentage).
 
GNAC PRESEASON POLL…in a close vote of conference coaches, the Vikings edged Concordia in the GNAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll…WWU gathered 5 of the 9 first place votes and 77 total points to finish just ahead of the Cavaliers (74 points).
 
2017 SEASON IN REVIEW…went 18-2-0 overall and finished 2nd in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 11-1-0 league mark…won third consecutive and fourth overall GNAC Championships title (2015-17)…advanced to the NCAA II West Regional Championship for the fifth time in the last six seasons, falling to No. 1-seed UC San Diego 2-0 on the road…ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches final Division II poll…led the GNAC with 9 selections to the All-Conference team, including first-team selections Gabriela Pelogi, Karli White, Sierra Shugarts and Emily Webster.
