Vikings Record Lopsided 7-2 Road Win at Saint Martin's

WWU scores seven goals with 10 assists to record GNAC road win

LACEY, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's soccer team scored early and often in a 7-2 road victory over Saint Martin's University Saturday afternoon in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

The Vikings received goals from six different players and combined for 10 assists to improve to 3-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in GNAC play.

WWU opened the scoring in the fifth minute at the 4:23 mark when junior winger Albin Jonsson was fouled inside the 18-yard box. Junior midfielder Edgar Serrano lined up from the spot and converted the penalty kick with a low shot inside the right post.

The Vikings would go on to score the next four goals unanswered to take a 4-0 lead prior to the 57th minute. Sophomore defender Sebastiano Silvetti scored his first goal of the season and second of his career redirecting a header off a corner from Serrano in the 26th minute.

Early second-half goals from sophomore defender Krubelle Tesfaye (assists to Serrano and Jonsson) and senior forward Eric Bunnell (assists to Tesfaye and Kaydin Wall) extended the lead to 4-0.

Saint Martin's (0-10-0, 0-4-0 GNAC) cut the deficit in half with goals in the 61st minute (Angel Alvarado-Fajardo) and 68th minute (Cole Sullivan) to bring the game to 4-2.

Western put the game away with three more goals with junior defender Joar Tidblom (74') and senior forward Andrew Rotter (89' & 90').

"It's good to get a win on the road in this conference," said WWU head coach Greg Brisbon. "Today we had some really good combinations and goals. It's a great way to gain some momentum going forward."

The seven goals scored are the most by the Vikings since the Vikings also scored seven in a 7-0 win vs. Northwest Nazarene on October 30, 2010. The seven goals are also tied for 3rd-most in a game in program history, with the 10 assists tied for 2nd-most in a game in program history trailing only the 11 in the win over NNU in 2010.
