Vikings Drop Home Game to Western Oregon

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's basketball team couldn't find their rhythm Thursday in a 74-62 home loss to Western Oregon University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game in Carver Gym.

WWU and WOU were tied 32-32 at halftime, with the Wolves pulling away in the second half for the 12-point victory to sweep the regular season series vs. the Vikings.

The Vikings dropped to 11-14 overall and 5-9 in GNAC play heading into Saturday's Senior Night home finale against No. 18 Saint Martin's University. After winning three consecutive games to pull close to a playoff position, WWU has dropped its last three games.

Needing to rally in the second half, the Vikings were limited to 30.6-percent shooting (11-for-36) and were 3-for-17 from three-point range over the final 20 minutes.

Senior forward Garrett Levesque scored a season high 17 points to lead WWU, going 6-for-8 from the field and secured his third double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Aidan Rice and freshman guard Dennis Johnson III both scored 13 points for the Vikings.

Playing with just seven players, the Wolves got received a career-high 32 points from sophomore guard Braydon Olson, who set the WOU single game record with 10 three-pointers. Brady Grier added a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double and Graham Eikenberry scored 14 points on 5-for-6 shooting.

After a back-and-forth first eight minutes of the second half, the Wolves went on a 14-2 run to set the tone for what ended up being a 12-point victory. WWU cut the deficit to six points at 66-60 with just over two minutes remaining following a 7-0 run, but a banked three-pointer by Olson stopped the momentum.
