SEATTLE, Wash. - Middle blocker Meghan Evoy (Jr., Olympia/Capital) had a match-high 10 kills with just one error in 17 attempts for a .529 attack percentage as Western Washington University swept Cal State Dominguez Hills, 30-13, 30-22, 30-20, in first-day action at the Seattle Pacific University Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Friday at Royal Brougham Pavilion.
The Vikings, now 4-1 and ranked a school-best No.6 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25, also got nine kills and 10 digs from outside hitter Jamie Petersen (So., Kent/Kentwood) and nine kills and two blocks from middle blocker Kristy Carstensen (Jr., Puyallup).
CSUDH remained winless in five matches this season. The match took just 1:10 to complete.
"It was an all-around good match against a team that plays a different tempo than we're used to," said Western coach Diane Flick. "The match gave us a chance to see some people who don't usually get to play, but who will help us as the season goes along."
Western libero Nicola Parker (Sr., Auburn) had 11 digs and defensive specialist Megan Tevis (So., Puyallup/Emerald Ridge) had four service aces. Both were match highs.
Parker moved into sixth place among Western career leaders in digs with 941, and Evoy climbed into a tie for 10th place in blocks with 176.
Setter Liz Bishop (Sr., Seattle/Mount Rainier) had 28 assists, upping her career total to 3,256. She moved into second place in that category among Viking career leaders at last week's Cal State San Bernardino tournament.
Western closes out tourney action Saturday, facing Cal State Stanislaus at 10 a.m. and UC Davis at 4:30 p.m.
