NAMPA, Id. - Forward Chela Gray (Jr., Kaneohe, HI/Iolani) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season lifting Western Washington University to a 3-0 victory over Northwest Nazarene in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday.
The triumph was the Vikings' second straight as they improved to 9-6-1 overall, 5-3-1 in the GNAC.
Northwest Nazarene dropped to 6-9-1 overall, 2-6-0 in the GNAC. The Crusaders have lost nine of their last 12 games after a 3-0 start. Gray scored her first goal since Oct. 2 in the 37th minute, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Vikings, which had a 19-9 shot advantage, scored twice in the second half. Amanda Font (Fr., Federal Way/Decatur) recorded her fourth goal of the year in the 68th minute, Mary Frances Buri (So., Gig Harbor/Peninsula) and Katy Sebens (So., Oak Harbor) each credited with assists.
Western's Hilary Crisman (Jr., Bremerton/Klahowya) tallied her first goal of the season with two minutes left in the game.
"Our ball control was excellent," said Western coach Travis Connell. "We had about five shots bounce off the cross bar."
Western goalkeeper Teresa Fish (So., Snohomish/Monroe) recorded her sixth shutout of the season, recording five saves.
"Teresa had an excellent game for us," Connell said. "She held onto the ball and didn't give up any rebounds."
Western meets Grand Canyon University on Monday (5 p.m.) at Mount Vernon (Mount Vernon High School).
