TURLOCK, Calif. - Middle blocker Meghan Evoy (Sr., Olympia/Capital) had a match-high 17 kills and added four blocks as Western Washington University completed its three matches at the Warrior Classic with a perfect record, defeating host Cal State Stanislaus, 30-13, 30-17, 30-17, on Saturday. The Vikings, No.9 in the AVCA/NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25, improved to 4-3. Cal State Stanislaus fell to 2-3. Evoy had 17 kills and no errors in 27 hitting attempts, an attack percentage of .630. Middle blocker Kristy Carstensen (Sr., Puyallup) added 11 kills for the Vikings and libero Courtney Schneider (Fr., Snohomish) had a match-high 13 digs. Kelli Costello led Cal State Stanislaus with six kills. Western had a .334 attack percentage in the match to .010 for the Warriors, who had just one more kill (24) than hitting errors (23). The Vikings also had nine service aces, with setter Kristen Urdahl (Jr., Spokane/Ferris) and outside hitter Brianna Murray (Sr., Everett/Cascade) each notching three. "We were very efficient today," said Western coach Diane Flick, who extended her career record to 99-22 and is one win shy of becoming the first coach in school history with 100 victories. "We played really solid and we keep improving with each match, which bodes well for us with conference play starting next week." Western swept to 3-0 victories in all three of its tournament matches, not allowing more than 20 points in any of the nine games. The Vikings open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Friday (7 p.m.), facing Northwest Nazarene in the home opener at Carver Gym. Western has won three consecutive GNAC championships and has a 54-match conference winning streak that is the longest active streak in NCAA II and the fourth-longest in division history.
