ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Sweeper Katie Warner (Fr., Burlington/Burlington-Edison) and goalkeeper Teresa Fish (Jr., Snohomish/Monroe) paced the defense as Western Washington University blanked Central Washington University, 3-0, on Monday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest.

The Vikings, who had an 18-5 advantage in shots, improved to 7-4-0 overall and 4-2-0 in league action.

Central, which fell to 5-8-1 overall and 2-3-1 in GNAC play, is winless in its last four outings. The Wildcats were coming off a 1-1 tie with nationally No.2-ranked Seattle Pacific University.

"We dominated, but our defense was the key to everything," said Western coach Travis Connell. "Katie Warner was probably the player of the game, organizing our defense and cutting out a lot of their through-ball attack, and Teresa Fish made a couple of key saves to preserve the shutout."

Fish now has 17 shutouts in her three-year career and four this season.

Western held a 2-0 lead at halftime. Midfielder Lindsey Cox (Sr., Redmond) opened the scoring with her third goal of the season in the 18th minute, forward Rosie Zadra (So., Poulsbo/North Kitsap/Olympic CC) notching her team-high fourth assist.

Midfielder Alyssa Kessler (So., Portland, OR/Grant) scored in the 30th minute, also her third of the year, defender Erin Casey (Sr., Redmond) being credited with the assist.

Midfielder Chrissy Wohl (Sr., Spokane/Lewis & Clark) got the Vikings' last goal in the 87th minute on a penalty kick.

Western entertains Seattle Pacific on Wednesday (4 p.m.) at Bellingham's Civic Stadium.
