ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Senior outside hitter Jamie Petersen (Kent/Kentwood), playing in the final match of her four-year career, had a match-high 16 kills as Western Washington University completed its season with a sweep of University of Alaska Anchorage, 30-21, 30-15, 30-18, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match Saturday at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
It was the fifth consecutive victory for the Vikings, matching their longest of the season. They finished 18-9 overall and 13-5 in the GNAC.
The match also was the last for senior setter Kristen Urdahl (Spokane/Ferris), who had 42 assists and seven digs. She ended her four-year career with 2,229 assists, the fifth highest total in school history.
Alaska Anchorage concluded its campaign 7-19 overall and 4-12 in league play. The Seawolves were led by Heather Lyons with eight kills and 11 digs.
Western libero Courtney Schneider (So., Snohomish) had a match-high 19 digs as she set school and conference records with a season total of 646. She also broke the Vikings' mark for best digs per game with a 6.59 average, and already ranks fifth among school leaders in career digs with 1,178.
Right-side hitter Lindsey Signer (So., Stanwood) and middle blocker Siri Wuotila (So., Seattle/Highline) each had 11 kills for Western. Wuotila also had 12 digs.
A kill by Petersen gave the Vikings the lead for good, 9-8, in game one as they went on to a nine-point victory. With the score tied 9-9 in game two, Schneider broke it open by serving 10 straight points. Western scored seven of the last eight points in game three, Urdahl serving five of them and Signer having the kill for match point.
The Vikings had a .326 attack percentage to .032 for Alaska Anchorage.
