Box Score

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Midfielder Lucy Miller (So., Palisades, CA) headed in the game winner in the 15th minute of overtime as Western Washington University blanked Saint Martin's University, 1-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Saturday at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.

It was the third win in the last four games for the Vikings, who improved to 11-6-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the GNAC. Their only loss during that stretch was 2-0 to nationally No.2-ranked Seattle Pacific.

Saint Martin's fell to 2-16 overall and 1-11 in league play. The Saints, who are competing in the sport for the first time this year, recently ended an 11-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Montana State Billings.

The game's only goal came in the 105th minute. Forward Claire Morgan (R-Fr., Bellingham) sent a corner kick to the far post which Katie Warner (Jr., Burlington/Burlington-Edison) headed back to the other side of the goal to a waiting Miller.

It was Miller's sixth goal of the season and third game winner, and the team-leading ninth assist for Morgan.

Western goalkeeper Teresa Fish (Sr., Monroe) had two saves in registering her school record 10th shutout of the season. She had tied the record, which was originally set in 1984 by Jeanne McDonald, for the second time. Fish had first tied it in 2005.

The shutout increased Fish's career total to a school and GNAC-record 31.

Morgan, who leads the team with seven goals, has been involved in 10 of Western's last 15 goals (5 goals and 5 assists).

The Vikings entertain Western Oregon on Monday (2 p.m.) in a GNAC counter.
