BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Andrea Archer scored her first goal of the season as Central Washington University upset arch-rival Western Washington University, 1-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Saturday at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.
It was the second straight loss for the Vikings, who fell to 8-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league play.
Central, which won for the third time in four games, improved to 6-6-2 overall and 3-4-0 in GNAC action.
The game's only goal was scored in the 57th minute when the Wildcats' Lindsay Mitchell had a shot deflect off the left goal post to Archer, who deposited it in the net from six yards.
Central had a 20-12 advantage in shots with Western not getting a shot in the first half. The Wildcats also had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
Central goalkeeper Amber Easterbrook made six saves in recording her fourth shutout of the campaign.
The Vikings travel to Seattle University on Wed., Oct. 10 (3 p.m.) for a GNAC contest.
