NAMPA, Id. - Midfielder Amanda Font (Sr., Federal Way/Decatur) scored the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute as Western Washington University edged Northwest Nazarene University, 3-2 in overtime, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Wednesday at NNU Field.

The Vikings, who were playing their first road game of the season, improved to 5-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in GNAC action. It was the league opener for NNU, which fell to 3-2-1 overall. Both of the Crusaders' losses and their tie have gone to overtime.

It was the seventh game-winning goal of Font's four-year career (16 total goals) and her second this season. A corner kick was headed out, but Katie Warner (Jr., Burlington/Burlington-Edison) corralled it and slipped a pass to Font who finished from 16 yards out.

"Both teams came to play," said Western coach Travis Connell. "I give a lot of credit to Northwest Nazarene because this is the best team they've ever had I think. They had us on the run at times, but our players responded well and had enough to get the victory in overtime."

After a scoreless first half, Western got on the scoreboard in the 49th minute as Brynn Regan (So., Mercer Island) headed in a corner kick by Rosie Zadra (Sr., Poulsbo/North Kitsap). The Crusaders tied it at 1-1 four minutes later on a header by Liz Gross off a corner kick by Carlee Stinton.

Western scored an own goal in the 80th minute on a cross that was deflected into the net by a NNU player. The Crusaders tied it a 2-all in the 86th minute on a goal by Hannah Mohs with Liz Gross and Katy McNutt being credited with assists.

NNU had a 19-14 advantage in shots, but the Vikings had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Vikings are at National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II No.8-ranked Seattle Pacific (7-0-0) on Saturday (3 p.m.) for a GNAC counter.
