BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Outside hitters Jaime Anderson (Sr., SeaTac/Mount Rainier) and Emily Castro (Sr., Bellingham/Whatcom CC) each had a match-high 13 kills and middle blocker Tiana Roma (Jr., Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway) added 12 kills in 22 attempts with just three errors for a .409 attack percentage as Western Washington University swept University of Alaska Anchorage, 30-15, 30-12, 30-20, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match Saturday on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium.
The Vikings, who improved to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in GNAC play, also got match highs of five blocks and five service aces from middle blocker Angie Alvord (Jr., Laurel/Meridian). They hit .322 for the match.
Alaska Anchorage, which lost its third straight match, fell to 4-5 overall and is 0-3 in league action. The Seawolves hit just .028.
Western libero Courtney Schneider had a match-high 21 digs. It was the 61st consecutive double-digit dig contest for Schneider, who extended her school and GNAC career-record total to 2,127, which ranks 12th all-time in NCAA Division II.
Western broke game one open by scoring eight straight points, two on aces by Alvord, for a 22-12 lead. The Vikings scored 20 of the first 25 points in game two, and closed out game three and the match with an 18-10 run.
Western, which had swept Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday, is 67-6 (.918) on its home floor since 2000. The Vikings next travel to Central Washington University on Saturday, Oct. 22 (7 p.m.) for a GNAC counter.
