LACEY, Wash. - Forward Jill Webb scored the game-winning goal with 17 seconds remaining as Western Washington University was upset by Saint Martin's University, 2-1, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer game Thursday at the SMU Soccer Field.

The Vikings, ranked third in the NCAA Division II West Region ratings, fell to 8-2-2 overall and dropped from a tie for first place to third in the GNAC standings at 5-2-1. The loss snapped their three-game unbeaten streak.

Saint Martin's improved to 4-8-0 with its third straight win and first victory in four home games this season. The Saints are 3-5-0 in conference play.

"It was a disappointing loss," said Western coach Travis Connell (8th year, 90-48-14). "But we have to put it on ourselves ... We didn't have the energy and the longer the game went on the better Saint Martin's played."

Webb scored her league-leading eighth goal in the 90th minute, taking a cross from Julianna Sackeyfio at the top of the box and finding the left corner of the goal.

After a scoreless first half, Saint Martin's took a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute. Jenny Baker scored her sixth goal of the season, Webb being credited with an assist.

Western's Kristin Maris (Fr., Issaquah) tied the score just over a minute later, scoring off a corner kick as Claire Morgan (Sr., Bellingham) picked up her league-leading seventh assist of the season.

That also was Morgan's school record-tying 26th assist of her four-year career, tying the mark shared by Cindy Gordon (1981-84) and Kelly Irving (2006-09).

Western and Saint Martin's each had 15 shots and the Vikings had an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks.

Western next travels to Western Oregon on Saturday (1 p.m.) for a GNAC counter.

"It was not the way that we wanted to start this road trip, but we'll try to bounce back Saturday at Western Oregon," Connell said.
