BELLINGHAM, Wash. - A massive advantage in shot attempts didn't produce a goal for Western Washington University as it tied Montana State University Billings, 0-0 in overtime, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Thursday afternoon at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.

The Vikings, who are now 6-5-3 overall and 5-4-1 in GNAC action, had a 24-6 shot advantage.

MSUB, which is 8-2-4 overall and fell to third in the GNAC at 5-1-4, was helped by the efforts of goalkeeper Danielle Gordon, who had 12 saves in registering her sixth shutout of the season.

"We dominated the game," said WWU coach Travis Connell. "We controlled all aspects, we played the way we wanted to play. We were just missing the final piece. I thought it was going to come, but after 110 minutes, it didn't."

Western's best chance came in the 25th minute, when a pass by Joanna Houplin (Jr., Olympia) put Megan Chapin (Sr., Seattle/Garfield) behind the MSUB defense. Chapin hit a shot low to the left post, but Gordon sprawled to tip the ball around the post for a corner.

The Vikings also had opportunities late in regulation, putting four shots on target in the final three minutes.

"Their keeper made some good saves, and controlled the crosses, so you have to give her some credit for the way she played," said Connell.

Western goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs (Jr., Brush Prairie/Hockinson) had two saves for her seventh shutout of the season.

It was the third 0-0 tie of the season for the Vikings, who opened the season with consecutive scoreless draws against UC San Diego and Chico State. WWU entertains Northwest Nazarene on Saturday (4:30 p.m.) in a GNAC counter.
