BILLINGS, Mont. - Western Washington University dominated much of the play, but fell to Montana State University Billings, 1-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Saturday at Yellowjacket Field.
The Vikings, who had a 6-4 shot advantage, fell to 3-3-2 overall and 2-2-0 in GNAC action. It was WWU's third straight loss to the Yellowjackets, all by 1-0 scores.
MSUB improved to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play. Whitney Siler scored the only goal of the contest, that coming on a header of a corner kick in the 65th minute.
"We let one slip away from us today," said WWU coach Travis Connell (9th year, 95-55-18). "We completely dominated the first half. They got in our half literally two times in the first half and we hit the post and missed two one-on-one opportunities."
"The one time they get down in our half in the second half, they score a goal, and we can't recover from that. We need to make our chances when we get them early in a game and put teams away like this because we have no business losing games like this."
Goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs (Richland) made three saves for the Vikings.
WWU next travels to Western Oregon for a GNAC counter on Thursday (3 p.m.), Sept. 29.
