ABOUT THE VIKINGS…the No. 18 Vikings (8-2-0, 3-1-0 GNAC) continue Great Northwest Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of rivalry games…WWU first hosts Seattle Pacific (7-2-1, 3-1-0) on Thursday night at Harrington Field (7 pm), and then travels to Ellensburg to face Central Washington (1-5-3, 1-2-1) on Saturday night in Tomlinson Stadium (7 pm)…WWU has won 7 of its last 8 games, and both losses this season are against current top-10 teams.  

LAST WEEK…the Vikings extended their winning streak to four consecutive games going 2-0-0 last week, recording a pair of road shutouts at Saint Martin's (4-0) and Western Oregon (3-0)…freshman Dayana Diaz recorded the GNAC's first hat trick this season in the win at SMU, while senior Gabriela Pelogi scored her 40^th career goal in the win at WOU.

BATTLE ROYALE…one of the great rivalries in college soccer, WWU (2016) and Seattle Pacific (2008) each have claimed an NCAA Division II national championship…WWU has advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of the last six seasons, while SPU has appeared in 14 of the last 15 seasons…SPU owns a slim 18-17-6 edge in the all-time series, but WWU has come on strong of late with a current 16-game unbeaten streak (13-0-3) dating back to the 2013 season.
 
FORMER FALCON…WWU head coach Travis Connell was a four-year letterman for the SPU men's soccer team from 1991-95, helping lead the Falcons to 1993 national championship.
 
SHUTOUT STREAK…the Vikings have recorded three consecutive shutouts, blanking GNAC opponents Simon Fraser (1-0), Saint Martin's (4-0) and Western Oregon (3-0)…have not allowed a goal over the last 277:24 dating back to the 2-1 win over nationally-ranked Colorado School of Mines…WWU is 3^rd in the GNAC with 5 shutouts and a 0.49 goals against average.

CHARTING SUCCESS…dating back to the start of the 2013 season (the last six seasons), WWU women's soccer has compiled an impressive 107-9-7 record for a .8984 winning percentage...during this 123-game span WWU has won the GNAC regular-season four times, combining to go 61-3-4 (.926) in league play, and won three postseason GNAC Championships…amongst all Division II schools, the winning percentage since the start of the 2013 season is second-best in Division II, narrowly trailing Grand Valley State (121-9-6/.912) and just ahead of defending national champion Central Missouri (111-10-6/.8976).
 
GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS…the Vikings made it a three-peat winning the 2017 GNAC Championships for the third consecutive season, earning the GNAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships…advanced to the championships final with a 2-0 win over Seattle Pacific and claimed the title on a golden goal in the second overtime, 1-0, against No. 1-seed and host Concordia…advanced to the league championships final in each of the six years of the event, building an undefeated 10-0-2 record in championships play, with titles in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017…the 2018 tournament will again be held in Portland, Oregon, Nov. 1-3 at Tuominen Field.
 
DISTRIBUTION…9 different players have combined to score WWU's 20 goals in the first 10 games this season, with five players scoring 2 goals…Dayana Diaz leads the team and is tied for 3^rd in the GNAC with 5 goals scored, and Gabriela Pelogi has scored 4 goals…WWU had 13 players score a goal last season (8 with multiple goals), which followed the 2016 national championship season where 19 players scored at least one goal.
 
SCORING MACHINES…the Vikings scored 55 goals last season, 8^th-most in single-season program history and ranked 9^th in NCAA II averaging 2.75 goals per game…goals per game average in 2017 was the best over the last 25 seasons…after averaging 1.52 goals per game in 2014, WWU has upped its scoring by averaging 2.52 goals per game over the last four seasons (199 goals in 79 games since start of 2015 season)…scored at least one goal in 50 of last 54 games.

GNAC PRESEASON POLL…in a close vote of conference coaches, the Vikings edged Concordia in the GNAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll…WWU gathered 5 of the 9 first place votes and 77 total points to finish just ahead of the Cavaliers (74 points).
 
2017 SEASON IN REVIEW…went 18-2-0 overall and finished 2^nd in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 11-1-0 league mark…won third consecutive and fourth overall GNAC Championships title (2015-17)…advanced to the NCAA II West Regional Championship for the fifth time in the last six seasons, falling to No. 1-seed UC San Diego 2-0 on the road…ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches final Division II poll…led the GNAC with 9 selections to the All-Conference team, including first-team selections Gabriela Pelogi, Karli White, Sierra Shugarts and Emily Webster.
