ABOUT THE VIKINGS…the No. 18 Vikings (8-2-0, 3-1-0 GNAC) continue Great Northwest Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of rivalry games…WWU first hosts Seattle Pacific (7-2-1, 3-1-0) on Thursday night at Harrington Field (7 pm), and then travels to Ellensburg to face Central Washington (1-5-3, 1-2-1) on Saturday night in Tomlinson Stadium (7 pm)…WWU has won 7 of its last 8 games, and both losses this season are against current top-10 teams.

BATTLE ROYALE…one of the great rivalries in college soccer, WWU (2016) and Seattle Pacific (2008) each have claimed an NCAA Division II national championship…WWU has advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of the last six seasons, while SPU has appeared in 14 of the last 15 seasons…SPU owns a slim 18-17-6 edge in the all-time series, but WWU has come on strong of late with a current 16-game unbeaten streak (13-0-3) dating back to the 2013 season.

GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS…the Vikings made it a three-peat winning the 2017 GNAC Championships for the third consecutive season, earning the GNAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships…advanced to the championships final with a 2-0 win over Seattle Pacific and claimed the title on a golden goal in the second overtime, 1-0, against No. 1-seed and host Concordia…advanced to the league championships final in each of the six years of the event, building an undefeated 10-0-2 record in championships play, with titles in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017…the 2018 tournament will again be held in Portland, Oregon, Nov. 1-3 at Tuominen Field.
