ABOUT THE VIKINGS…the No. 15 Vikings (4-2-0, 0-1-0 GNAC) return home to Harrington Field to host a pair of games this week in Bellingham…the week begins with a non-conference match-up against No. 7 Colorado School of Mines (5-0-1) on Wednesday at noon and continues with the first home GNAC game of the season hosting Simon Fraser (3-2-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) on Saturday at 4 pm.
 
LAST WEEK…the Vikings split a pair of road games last week, defeating Texas Woman's University 2-0 with a pair of second-half goals in Denton, Texas…opened GNAC play with a 1-0 loss at No. 15 Concordia in Portland.
 
NCAA REMATCH…Wednesday's game vs. the Colorado School of Mines is a rematch of the 2016 NCAA Division II quarterfinal played in Golden, Colorado, the only meeting between the two schools…the Vikings defeated the Orediggers 5-1, scoring 5 unanswered goals, to advance to the NCAA II Final Four and eventually win the 2016 NCAA Division II national championship.

HARRINGTON ADVANTAGE…WWU is 41-2-1 (.943) at Harrington Field since debuting the on-campus facility in 2014, including going 12-0-0 in 2015, 13-0-0 in 2016, 5-1-0 in 2017 and 2-0-0 so far this season.
 
DOMINATING THE GNAC…the Vikings have won five of the last six GNAC regular-season titles and each of the last three GNAC Championships titles…are 60-2-6 (.926) vs. GNAC opponents dating back to midway through the 2013 season…had a 64-game unbeaten streak vs. GNAC opponents snapped last season in a home game vs. Concordia (10/28/17)…went 58-0-6 from October 2013-October 2017, with the unbeaten streak vs. conference teams ranking 2^nd-longest in NCAA Division II history (record is 72).

THE NATIONAL POLL…the Vikings dropped from No. 9 to No. 15 in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II poll…mainstay in the national polls since the 2012 season, earning final rankings of #13 (2012), #3 (2013), #17 (2014), #3 (2015), #1 (2016) and #8 (2017).
 
HISTORIC STREAK…the Vikings established a program and state of Washington collegiate record with their 39th consecutive victory on Oct. 26, 2017 at Northwest Nazarene…the 39-game winning streak broke the previous record of 38 consecutive wins set by the 1982-84 Vikings (10 games in 1982, 14 in 1983 and 14 games in 1984)…the streak is 4^th-longest in NCAA II history and the 40-game unbeaten streak is tied for 4^th-longest

• Colorado School of Mines: WWU is 1-0-0 all-time vs. the Orediggers, with a 5-1 victory in the 2016 NCAA II quarterfinal in Golden, Colo., the only meeting between the two schools.

• Simon Fraser: WWU leads the all-time series vs. SFU 26-17-3, including an undefeated 13-0-2 mark in GNAC contests…current 18-game unbeaten streak vs. SFU dating back to the 2008 season (16-0-2) and a current 14-game winning streak (since 10/5/11)…have not allowed a goal to the Clan since Oct. 25, 2008, a 17-game shutout streak.

 
POSTSEASON SUCCESS…the Vikings have made six consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Championships, with last season being the eighth overall in program history…own an all-time 15-7 record in NCAA Championships play…crowned national champions after in 2016 with a 24-0-1 record, capped by a 3-2 victory over Grand Valley State in Kansas City, Missouri…WWU has served as a first and second round host in each of the last five seasons.

HALLQUIST NAMED GNAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK…senior defender Taylor Hallquist was named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 3-9 after recording a goal and 2 assists…Hallquist played 153 of 180 minutes in WWU's 2-0-0 week to earn her second GNAC weekly award (also 9/25-10/1/17).
 
TOUGH SCHEDULE…the Vikings are in the midst of a grueling schedule that will see the team play four ranked opponents in the first 7 matches of the season…WWU has a pair of 1-0 defeats against No. 5 UC San Diego (now #2) and No. 15 Concordia (now #10), and beat No. 7 MSU Denver 2-1 (now #11)…host No. 7 Colorado School of Mines this Wednesday at Harrington Field.
 
WINNING…WWU has won 46 of its last 50 games dating back to the start of the 2016 national championship season, and is 67-6-2 over the last four seasons (.907)…won five of the last six GNAC regular-season titles and three consecutive GNAC Tournaments…current string of six consecutive trips to the NCAA II Championships, which includes playing in the West Region championship match five times…advanced to the NCAA II Final Four in 2013, 2015 and 2016…current streak of 14 consecutive winning seasons is the 8^th-longest active streak in NCAA II.
 
DOMINATING DEFENSE…a calling card of the WWU program has been defense, with the Vikings ranking 5^th in the nation last season with a .397 goals-against average, tied for 3^rd-fewest goals allowed (8) and tied for 5^th with 14 shutouts…allowed multiple goals in a game only 9 times over the last 6 seasons (since 2012), combining for a .428 GAA average during this 142-game span, with 91 shutouts…WWU has featured the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year five of the last six years.
 
CHARTING SUCCESS…dating back to the start of the 2013 season (the last six seasons), WWU women's soccer has compiled an impressive 103-9-7 record for a .895 winning percentage...during this 119-game span WWU has won the GNAC regular-season four times, combining to go 58-3-4 (.923) in league play, and won three postseason GNAC Championships…amongst all Division II schools, the winning percentage since the start of the 2013 season is 3^rd-best in Division II, narrowly trailing Grand Valley State (117-9-6/.909) and Central Missouri (109-9-5/.906).
 
GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS…the Vikings made it a three-peat winning the 2017 GNAC Championships for the third consecutive season, earning the GNAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships…advanced to the championships final with a 2-0 win over Seattle Pacific and claimed the title on a golden goal in the second overtime, 1-0, against No. 1-seed and host Concordia…advanced to the league championships final in each of the six years of the event, building an undefeated 10-0-2 record in championships play, with titles in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017.
 
DISTRIBUTION…7 different players have combined to score WWU's 10 goals in the first 6 games this season…the Vikings had 13 different players score a goal last season (8 with multiple goals), which followed the 2016 national championship season where 19 players scored at least one goal.
 
SCORING MACHINES…the Vikings scored 55 goals last season, 8^th-most in single-season program history and ranked 9^th in NCAA II averaging 2.75 goals per game…goals per game average in 2017 was the best over the last 25 seasons…after averaging 1.52 goals per game in 2014, WWU has upped its scoring by averaging 2.52 goals per game over the last four seasons (189 goals in 75 games since start of 2015 season)…scored at least one goal in 46 of last 50 games.
 
HOMEGROWN…the 2018 roster is composed of primarily players from the state of Washington, with 25 of 28 hailing from the Evergreen State…only players not from Washington on the roster are senior goalkeeper Alyssa Treptow (Flagstaff, AZ), senior goalkeeper Hillary O'Conner (Los Angeles, CA) and junior defender Annaliese Laurila (Portland, OR).
 
COACH CONNELL…head coach Travis Connell is in his 16^th season at the helm of the women's program, and 23^rd overall at WWU…has a 224-68-26 (.745) record leading the Vikings, with a current string of 14 consecutive winning seasons and 6 straight trips to the NCAA Championships…heading into 2018 was listed as the 6^th-winningest active coach at the DII level (by percentage).
 
GNAC PRESEASON POLL…in a close vote of conference coaches, the Vikings edged Concordia in the GNAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll…WWU gathered 5 of the 9 first place votes and 77 total points to finish just ahead of the Cavaliers (74 points).
 
2017 SEASON IN REVIEW…went 18-2-0 overall and finished 2^nd in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 11-1-0 league mark…won third consecutive and fourth overall GNAC Championships title (2015-17)…advanced to the NCAA II West Regional Championship for the fifth time in the last six seasons, falling to No. 1-seed UC San Diego 2-0 on the road…ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches final Division II poll…led the GNAC with 9 selections to the All-Conference team, including first-team selections Gabriela Pelogi, Karli White, Sierra Shugarts and Emily Webster.
