  • Participated three years prior to World War II, his senior season being 1946-47
  • One of seven honored in first WWU Athletic Hall of Fame induction
  • Lettered in basketball and track at Edison High School. Won three Skagit County titles in 880 and mile in 1937 and 1938. Placed fifth in state 880 in 1937 and second in state 880 in 1938. Time was 1:59.2, which is still outstanding today. Time at WWU interrupted by WWII. Personal: Born in 1920, lived in Edison-Bow area his entire life. Served his nation as a Chief Petty Officer in WWII. Volunteer for Allen Fire Dept. for 32 years. Teacher in Burlington-Edison School District for 28 years. Became an electrician while teaching full time and established Dahl's Valley Electric
  • In the past few decades of retirement, Norm could be seen proudly giving tours of his vegetable garden. His greatest pride, however, was neither his numerous athletic awards, professional accolades, nor prize winning tomatoes. His greatest treasures were his wife Patricia, his seven children, 21 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Norm passed away in November of 2010, but he will be lovingly remembered as an astonishing athlete and the Master Gardener of his community's and family's soul. Norm was truly one of the finest athletes of the Skagit Valley.
